Minister Maria Wasiak with Commissioner Corina CretuState of the negotiations on the operational programmes for 2014-2020 and closing of the perspective 2007-2013 were the main topics discussed during the first meeting of Minister of Infrastructure and Development Maria Wasiak and new EU Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Creţu. Commissioner chose Poland as the destination of her first visit after taking up her duties.

Minister Maria WasiakMaria Wasiak is the new minister of infrastructure and development. She received nomination on 22th September 2014 from the President of Poland Bronisław Komorowski. Replaced Elżbieta Bieńkowska, which was designated to take over as European Commissioner for internal market and services, industry, entrepreneurship and SMEs.

Today, the European Commission approved the Partnership Agreement which is the most important document determining the investment strategy for the new pool of European Funds in Poland. Poland is thus one of the first countries to finish the negotiations on this strategic document.

On 1 May 2014, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of Poland’s accession to the European Union. From 2004, Poland has received over EUR 82 billion from the cohesion policy, which we have invested in i.a. new roads, improvement of the environment, fast Internet access and development of innovative companies. The funds we received have exceeded the total Polish national contribution over 3-fold. As a result, Poland is the largest net beneficiary of the European Union funds and the average amount of the EU financing per capita in Poland was PLN 8 500.

Regio Stars 2014The project aimed at creating ecological urban transport in Gdynia has become the laureate of this year’s edition of RegioStars competition in the CityStar category – investments in urban public transport compliant with sustainable growth principle. The competition organized by the European Commission distinguishes innovative and original undertakings, holding them up as models for other European regions.

Flag of EUOn 5 March 2014 negotiations between the European Commission and the Polish government, aimed at the elaboration of methods for best allocation of Community funds in the years 2014-2020, began. Opening of negotiations took place after submission of draft Partnership Agreement by Poland on 20 January 2014. The Partnership Agreement is a strategic document that comprehensively covers issues related to European Funds.

Visit of Minister Elżbieta Bieńkowska to Denmark

On 15 November 2013, the Minister of Regional Development paid a visit to Copenhagen. The aim of the visit was to promote the Polish vision of development and strengthen the positive image of Poland as an innovative country, efficiently using the European Funds. Elżbieta Bieńkowska met, inter alia, with Nick Hækkerup, the Minister for Trade and European Affairs.
